The New Survey Process – Assessment Tag 641,

Medical Director Tag 841 and Critical Element Pathways

The latest update to the State Operations Manual, Appendix PP has many changes impacting Operational and Clinical Managers. This interactive session will review two of the important survey areas of focus – The Assessment Process (MDS 3.0 – 1.19.1) and the Role and Responsibility of the Medical Director. F. Tag 641 has many changes and also has additional survey activity from a consolidation of requirements from other Tags that have been deleted. Terminology and requirements are more specific. Responsibility for accuracy and consistency in the Assessment Process will be discussed. The Medical Director F. Tag 841 has significant additional requirements for documentation and management of care. These changes will all be documented and discussed in the program. A must do session for Administrators, Clinical, Operational, and MDS Coordinators, as well as members of the I.D.T. The updates in the Appendix P.P. documents also include updated Critical Element Pathways. This session will include a review of three updated pathways – Resident Assessment – Hospitalization and Discharge. All members of the IDT and managers need to be aware of the questions that surveyors will now by including in these areas. Come for a day of interactive learning and get updated documents to share with your teams.

Objectives: 1. Discuss the overall changes to the survey process impacting Clinical and Operational management.

2. Identify the specific changes to the assessment requirements - Tag 641.

3. Identify the specific changes to the Medical Director Tag – 841

4. Discuss the impact of regulatory changes of policy development and staff education

5. Review changes to Critical Element Pathways related to Assessment and Medical Director function

6. Establish approaches to document compliance with the new survey process
