MDS 3.0 Section by Section Review of Specific Data Creating PDPM Base Payment Rates Documentation

RAI Manual Chapter 3 and Chapter 6
This fast paced session will present a unique Section by Section review of the data items that CMS uses to create the elder specific base payment rate for Part A Medicare from the MDS 3.0 . This Section by Section review will highlight all the items that can trigger the PDPM payment process. Specific coding instructions from the RAI Manual Chapter 3 and Chapter 6 will be discussed and compared with the error patterns currently being reported in negative audit results. A full discussion of Chapter 6 of the RAI Manual will include the unique coding instructions for PDPM rate calculation for the data. All MDS processes in the facilities must follow all of the instructions in both chapters as well as the calculations of the Functional Performance Scores for PT/OT and Nursing CMI. Current audit reports are showing documentation and coding errors are significant. This session is designed for operational, clinical, financial and MDS managers and IDT members. A must do session presented by one of the industries most experienced consultants and trainers. Case examples will be discussed as well as documentation formats, departmental policies and audit forms to spot check compliance and reduce risks.
Objectives:
1 Identify coding items on the MDS 3.0 Data Set that contribute to base rate calculations for the PDPM payment system.
2 Review MDS 3.0 tools and documentation formats available to self audit data accuracy and timeliness.
3 Focused discussion on each Section of the MDS 3.0 Comprehensive Assessment that has data items that create or impact base payment rate calculations with review of requirements from the RAI Manual Chapter 3 and Chapter 6.
4 Discuss current CMS audit processes reporting data accuracy findings of SNF PDPM claims.
5 Identify strategies to improve data quality and accuracy to support PDPM payment rates for Part A Medicare claims.
