Newly Revised MDS 3.0 Manual Update and Coding Instructions for Administrators, Consultants, Clinical Leadership and MDS Managers

This interactive positive program will review the coding and guidance changes. Audits reveal that MDS coding is not complete or accurate resulting in significant payment loss. COVID case management and documentation is a very important part of proper payment. We will be discussing the MDS 3.0 RAI manual as well as the directions for the MDS formats and all the new and modified items in the data set. Specific strategies for Administrators, Consultants, DONs and MDS Managers will be discussed as well as documentation formats for accurate data reporting. Documentation of competency testing and  educational programs will be demonstrated with case examples. Full discussion of the coding guidelines, definitions, and timelines for data collection will be included.  Common documentation deficiencies leading to payment returns from federal pilot audits will be reviewed.

A must do session for Administrators, Operational staff, Clinical Leadership and MDS Managers, DONs

Objectives:

1) Describe coding changes to current MDS 3.0 items definitions

2) Identify the process to collect and code the admission primary diagnosis and active diagnosis on the MDS 3.0 data set

3) Discuss operational and clinical approaches to training and competency review related to the new items

4) Correlate the use of all items in the Data Set to the P.D.P.M. payment system

5) Identify MDs data items that are currently not being coded correctly as seen in audits
