A Review of the MDS 3.0 Data Set

What is new? What has been changed? What has been deleted?

Late in 2019, CMS released the draft copies of the upcoming MDS 3.0. This fast paced interactive session for operational and clinical managers will identify the data changes and additional data in the assessment process. The content will include an evaluation of the changes in multiple assessments - the comprehensive, quarterly, IPA, Optional State Assessment and Discharge Assessments. Data Formulation policy changes and medical record documentation will be discussed in preparation for the upcoming implementation. The session will also identify the changes in data that will impact Quality Measures as well as 5 star data. This is a must do session for Operational, Clinical, Fiscal and MDS department managers.

Objectives:

1. Identify the data content changes impacting the data base formulation.

2. Review the difference in data content between the numerous assessment types.

3. Discuss the content of the Optional State Assessment and its impact on Case Mix rate determination.

4. Discuss case examples of the impact of payment systems - Case Mix and P.D.P.M. with new data base content.

5. Describe the operational and clinical management approaches to prepare for the significant increase in the data set content.
